Email Copywriting That Sells Without Being Sleazy
Write emails that make money without sounding like a used car salesman.
Nobody likes being sold to. But everyone likes buying. The difference? How you frame it.
The Anti-Pattern
Stop writing emails like this:
- "BUY NOW!!! LIMITED TIME!!!"
- "Click here to get 50% off!"
- "Don't miss out on this amazing opportunity!"
That's spam. That's sleazy. That's why people unsubscribe.
The Framework That Works
1. Lead with value.
Give before you ask. Teach something. Solve something. Be useful first.
2. Tell a story.
People don't buy products. They buy stories about how life improves. Paint the picture.
3. Make it about them.
Not "I want you to buy." But "Here's what you'll get."
4. Create urgency without pressure.
"This offer expires Sunday" is fine. "YOU MUST BUY NOW OR DIE" is not.
The Formula
Hook → Value → Story → Offer → Close
Hook: Grab attention in the first sentence.
Value: Give something useful.
Story: Make it relatable.
Offer: What you're selling, clearly.
Close: One clear call to action.
Examples That Convert
Bad: "Buy my course now!!! 50% off!!!"
Good: "I spent 3 years figuring out [X]. Here's what took me so long—and how you can avoid the same mistakes. Oh, and there's a course if you want to go deeper."
Final Thought
Sell by helping. Help by selling. The best sales feels like a favor, not a pitch.
